The Magical Passport

The other day, my six-year old abruptly pulled me out of my laundry folding routine with his heartfelt exclamation, “I wish I had a magical passport!”

“Ooooo,” I replied–immediately intrigued by the earnestness in his tone, and the visions that danced their way before my mind’s eye of the places to which I would venture, with my own magical passport in hand. “Where would you go with your magical passport?”

“I would visit SpongeBob, Power Rangers, the future, lots of places–places before I even existed, to see what I was before I lived this very day. Having a magical passport would be like having a wish every single day!” he excitedly blurted out in one breath.

I nodded in agreement.

Yes, the magical passport would provide the freedom to go anywhere one wanted, to do what one wanted to do, and to be exactly who one wanted to be. It would offer endless possibilities. Oh, if only we could find the magical passport!

Suspend your disbelief with me, friends–just for a moment. And consider the possibilities….

While there are many ways to get to the same place, I have found that the thoughts that I think, coupled with the energy I bring to a situation, are a powerful elixir in the creating of my experience. We get what we think about. And what we believe, we receive. It really is that simple, I have found.

Such was the case, when the Universe brought me the idea of firefighting and placed it squarely under my desk, at my high-heeled feet.

The Thoughts You Think Create Your Reality
After some years as an unhappy account executive in a high-tech PR firm, I began a desperate internal investigation into my own self. What I finally discovered, after searching my soul, was that the corporate world was not for me. What I really wanted, more than anything else, was to serve others.

My thoughts about finding a service-oriented career began to marinate and flavor. My excitment grew, as many possibilities popped up in my mind. I pictured myself serving in a wide variety of ways – social worker, park ranger, nurse, paramedic, teacher. I wrote lists. I was inspired. I felt free. I looked at the classifieds, and more ideas emerged. I felt such gratitude to finally know, without a doubt, the direction I wanted to pursue. I knew that I was perfectly suited for this purpose, in whatever shape it turned out to be. Therefore, the Universe conspired, and things came to me seemingly out of the blue.

All thoughts are energy, which manifest into what we see as reality. In other words, our thoughts create our reality. Have you ever noticed that if you think your day will be the pits, it is? If you think you look good, you do? And vise versa. Because the thoughts we think about ourselves and others are powerfully creative, we would do well to be conscious of what we are thinking.

My Mom looked at my lists and mentioned that she knew someone whose son was a paramedic. I ended up talking to him for an hour. He told me all about being a paramedic, paramedic school, and how much he loved his job. At the end of our conversation, he casually mentioned that he was a fire captain as well. He said,” You know, if you want to be a paramedic and you aren’t afraid to run into burning buildings, you might want to consider being a firefighter.” Hmmmm…. The Universe was working it’s magic even though I hadn’t the faintest clue.

The Energy You Emit, Creates Your Reality
As we emit energy about something, we attract things matching this same energy. In fact, we don’t actually have to do anything. The Universe conspires in an infinite number of ways that we cannot even fathom, to bring us the match to our thoughts and energy.

As I reflect back on this time, I see that the energy I embodied was one of inspiration. I beleived in possibilities. I was happy I had direction. I was excited, eager, and passionate about this new desire. I read books and articles about the amazing experiences of these brave men and women. I dreamed about it. I was unfazed by my small stature. I was unhindered going into a “man’s job” where I’d been warned of men who believed this was no job for women. I knew I was strong physically. I had been a competitive gymnast. I knew I was strong mentally. I felt invincible. I knew I could be compassionate. I was empathetic towards my fellow man. I believed.

And so, once again, the Universe brought me people and experiences that were a match to my inspired belief. Everything during this time felt inspired. I made friends with others who were seeking this same career. I seemed to magically connect with those who wanted to train extra hard and study on weekends.

Align Your Thoughts and Your Energy
Here is something interesting to remember as we create our own experience. When we really want something, we have focus and direction. However, wanting is only part of the equation. If we believe we will never get to our goal, you can see how our energies are not in alignment.

Think about something you really want in your own life, but don’t believe will ever happen. There is not much hope or inspiration surrounding that topic, is there? When our energies are at such odds, how can we expect to succeed?

However, if we couple our desire with the belief that we will achieve it, our every fiber of our being is in alignment. And then when we find ourselves in alignment, the Universe delivers. This was surely the case in my experience of becoming a firefighter.

I never felt that I had to work hard to achieve my goal. Don’t get me wrong – I did work hard, extremely hard. However, not from a place of struggle, anger, or doubt,–but from a place of inspiration. All the actions I took towards achieving my goal were inspired. So in the end, it really did not feel like hard work.

The Universe brought the idea of firefighting to me through the tail end of a phone conversation. And I believed. And opportunities came to me. I allowed them to come to me–seemingly easily and miraculously.

You, too, have the means to be and do whatever your heart desires, through your own thoughts, energy, and alignment.

YOU are the magical passport.

Knowing this, how will you choose to show up in your day? You can choose to….
1. Be aware of and deliberate in your thoughts.
2. Be conscious about the energy you are sending out
3. Align your thoughts and your energy
4. Allow your dreams to unfold

I came out of my reverie and looked at my growing boy. I am quite certain he saw the sparkle in my eye as I slowly spoke.
“What would you say, if I told you,” YOU are the magical passport”?

“I would like that,” he said.

Me too.

I agree Sherri. And when we know that we create our reality, we can leave our victim story behind and become our true empowered selves!

Very well spoken and thought provoking. Out of the unadulterated mind of a child. To dream, to be on an adventure. To first listen then ask to seek a better understanding of what a child sees and thinks about. Thank you for sharing.
